The Information Officer is ordinarily the administrative head of the requestee. In some instances Information Officers may delegate their powers and duties under PAIA to employees designated as Deputy Information Officers
In terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 sections 14 and 51 every Public and Private body must prepare and make available a manual which must contain the name and contact details of the body including the details of the Information Officer
Each public body must compile categories of records that are readily available without submitting a PAIA request and include records that must be made available in terms of other record creating obligations arising from other legislation.
